What we keep, why, who else sees it, and what you can ask for. In plain words.
Who we are
buysellbelize.com is run by Belize Web Design, Belize. We are responsible for the personal data this site keeps, under the Belize Data Protection Act 2021. For anything about your data, email [email protected].
Visitors
You can search and read without an account. We use no tracking or advertising cookies. We set one cookie to remember your language and one when you sign in. We count visits to each profile and taps on the WhatsApp button as daily numbers, with no IP address and nothing that identifies you.
The map is drawn by Google Maps and the fonts come from Google Fonts. When the page loads, those services receive your IP address, as with any website that uses them. Their privacy policies apply to that.
Business owners
To be listed, we keep what you enter in the application: business name, address, phone numbers, website, description, year started, your references (name, phone and how they know you), your photos and, where it applies, your trade licence number. We use this to verify the business and show its profile.
What is public: business name, category, town, address, phone, WhatsApp, website, description, accepted photos, the verification date and the content of the accounts you connect. What only our team sees: your name and email as the owner, your references, the calls we made, your licence number and internal notes.
When you connect Google, Facebook or Instagram by signing in yourself, we keep an encrypted access key to read your rating, hours, recent posts and public reviews a few times a day. We never see your password, never post on your behalf and do not read private messages. You can remove an account from your dashboard at any time, which deletes the key.
Photos are reviewed by a person. We may use a tool that gives a hint about whether an image was made by AI; a person always makes the decision. We use your photos for nothing but your profile and the verification.
Members and reviews
To write a review you need an account: email and password, or Sign in with Google (we receive your name and email from Google, nothing else). We show your name next to your review. A person reads every review before it appears.
Reports
If you report a listing, we keep your email and what you wrote so we can look into it and answer you. We do not share who you are with the business.
Payments
The Pro plan is paid through a PayPal invoice. PayPal handles the payment and your payment details under its own policy; we keep only the invoice number and the paid-until date.
Who else sees data
Nobody, for advertising. We use providers that work for us: the site's hosting and email sending (which may be outside Belize), Google (map, fonts, Business Profile and sign-in), Meta (Facebook and Instagram, only when you connect your accounts) and PayPal (Pro invoices). We share data with an authority only when the law requires it.
We write to you only about your application, your listing, your connected accounts, your plan, your reviews and your password. No newsletters, and we never share your email.
How long we keep data
For as long as your account or your listing exists. A removed listing stops showing at once. We keep a minimal record of the verification (business name, owner, outcome and reason) for 12 months so that repeat applications with false details can be spotted, then delete it. Visit counts are kept per day with no personal data.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, have it corrected, delete your account and your listing, or remove a connected account. Email [email protected] and we answer within 30 days. If you think we have handled your data badly, you can also go to Belize's data protection authority.
Children
The site is for adults. We do not knowingly accept accounts from anyone under 18; if we find one, we delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change something that matters, we note it here with the date and email business owners.
